Well, we managed to pick up another second place finish at a track I was honestly apprehensive about. I'm usually not the best at holding the intense concentration you need to race on a road course, but I managed to keep it on track and luck kind of played my way to fall into a P2!
Race started out really calm, everyone fell in line and Blade pulled out to a mad lead, as would be the norm for the night. Chris seemed faster than me, but I managed to keep him close until I had a slight slip up just a couple laps before my pitstop. The field was so spread out by lap 14 that I was able to come in & pit and basically come back out in the same position.
The competition caution flew on lap 15, and I stayed out along with the rest of the Top 5. By this point David and Rolando had dropped out of the race, and the field was down to seven. The restart was a little crazy, and most of the field wasn't even out of the last corner when the leader dropped the hammer. But the real mess started in turn 2, when Chris spun out of second and took Ty with him. I managed to get past that, and ended up with Jarrett and Brendan on my tail.
I had to keep reminding myself not to start pushing too hard and making mistakes, and luckily I was able to keep my cool. The pressure from behind soon faded after a couple small mistakes, and I was able to get into a rhythm and ride out the last ten laps. Jarrett fell to fifth, and Drew and Brendan fought hard for third. Both ended up with some junked up racecars and hot tempers.
I just kept the thing on track and brought it home to the checkered, surprisingly increasing my points lead on the track I thought would be the biggest threat to my championship run. Now it's on to Homestead, which is probably my favorite track on the ARC circuit. And it couldn't come at a better time!
