Wow, was it a wild one there in Bristol! I went from being probably about the sixth or seventh fastest car, to being in position to win and actually pulling it off! Some crazy, crazy stuff went down, and I'm going to try to recollect it all for you. Here we go.
The race started off fairly calm, but a bit of a domino effect collected a few cars for the first caution around lap 7. I was involved, but the damage was minimal. Also involved was Drew Carroll and Brandon Hastings, both of whom were forced to use a tow. The race went pretty well from there, with a good run leading up to the next caution around lap 55 for a single car spin of Trevor Perry. This is when things started getting crazy.
Differing pit strategies put different cars in different spots, and though a ton of jumbling went on, no one received any extensive damage. A few short runs interrupted by cautions brought us to lap 120, with about seven cars on the lead lap. At this point, I was about seventh fastest. David Brownell lead us to the restart, but when something broke on his truck it sent the field scattering. Now we're under caution, about 25 laps to go.
When a few choice (and not family-friendly) words were exchanged between Blade Whitt and points leader Chris Shella, all heck broke loose. Shella turned Blade in Turn 1, then continued to go after him until he was DQ'ed. It was unfortunate but necessary, and I hope the words that were said to start this whole mess are never spoken again. During this mess, Drew Carroll became an innocent victim and wound up with race ending damage. Sucks Drew, we'll get 'em at 'Dega.
While all this was going on, I found myself suddenly in the lead and in position to actually win. I took the green with 17 to go and didn't look back. Blade still mounted a good charge and made me work for it, but ended up catching the wall and sliding back. It's great to now be sitting in the points lead with three to go, and I have to thank Alpinestars and SuperNova Racing for all their help. Hopefully the league can overcome this mess of a race and realize...hey, that's Bristol.
