Speedweeks is upon us once again! That close cluster of prestigious events that opens the new season! This season, we've lined up a newly-formatted ARC Budweiser Shootout, and, as always, the Daytona 125. Winning any event at Daytona is amazing, and this season we're giving you all two chances at it! Will anyone be able to walk away with a Daytona sweep?
As I said before, an all-new ARC Budweiser Shootout format will be put in place this season. It will turn out like this:
- The practice will go up at 7:00 pm eastern on Sunday, December 30, 2012. It will be a 70 minute practice.
- There will be no qualifying for this event. In the last 10 minutes of practice, we will put the names of all the drivers currently in the session into the list randomizer at random.org. This will set the qualifying order for the race.
- Unfortunately, iRacing doesn't let us set the grid manually. So, we will take the initial green however it lines us up. We will then drive to the backstretch, line everyone up, and throw another caution. We will then restart the race like normal. 5 laps will be added to the race length to account for this line-up period and caution.
- With 10 laps to go, a caution will be thrown. Everyone in the field will be required to pit and take 4 tires. Fuel is optional. After the restart, it's boy's have at it until we see the checkered. Goodluck to all.
The next Speedweeks event is a two-hour open practice on Monday, December 31, 2012 from 7:00-9:00 pm eastern. All league drivers will be welcome to come practice qualifying setups, tandems setups, and we will hopefully see enough of you out there to do some pack-drafting.
At the conclusion of Speedweeks will be the first points race of the season: the Daytona 125.
The session will open with a one-hour practice session at 7:00 pm eastern on January 1, 2013. At 8:00 pm eastern qualifying will start. It is yet to be determined whether we will use open or lone qualifying, but I will update this post when we have decided. It will also be outlined in the pm/email you receive before the event. Lone Q would be 2 laps and 10 minutes long. Open Q would be 30 minutes long, and we would advance when all drivers currently in the session had completed their qualifying attempts. So, the race will begin anywhere between 8:10 and 8:30 pm eastern. It is your best bet just to be in the session by 8:00 pm. The race will be 50 laps.
